Winter in Saint-Petersburg, again

December 28th, 2010

This year we have the white winter again, here in St.Petersburg. After ten, or so years of dark winters with practically no snow, last year we had a big surprise: snow, a lot of snow in the winter! Nobody was prepared to this meteorological phenomena: municipal services had only 20-years-old rusty snowploughs, the citizens bought up all snow shovels in the  shops in a couple of days. As a result, the traffic in the city was  paralyzed, cleaned up parking lots caused real fights between drivers, killer icicles were menacing unaware pedestrians struggling forward through snow-drifts.

This year it is slightly better. We have the same amount of snow but after a snow storm, in a week or so, the main city streets are cleaned from the snow while the smaller ones remain buried by snow mountains
